THE 2013-2014 SEASON

Becky's New Car

Fiddler on the Roof

Torch Song Trilogy

Other Desert Cities

Play It by Heart

Dear Friends,

Our 2013-2014 Eichelberger Loft Season brings together some longtime favorites and some new works that are likely to become favorites. I am personally very excited about the five-show collection in this, our 27th season as Dayton’s own professional regional theatre company, and eager to explore the theme—family in change—that runs through each of them.

Come along as we take a ride in Becky’s New Car, a quirky, outrageous and heartfelt comedy about mid-life choices and consequences, then celebrate tradition with a beloved larger-than-life musical classic that I can’t wait to stage in our intimate Loft Theatre, Fiddler on the Roof. See how far we’ve come—and not come—since the time before AIDS and the debate over gay marriage in Torch Song Trilogy, Harvey Fierstein’s defining story of acceptance. Discover the secrets and scintillating writing that have made Other Desert Cities one of theatre’s hottest new dramas. Finally, be among the first to witness our premiere of the country musical Play It by Heart, an endearing story we’ve long been shepherding through development.

Please join us in August for our annual Festival of New Musicals as we workshop two emerging pieces by some exceptionally talented artists, The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes, a satirical romantic comedy by Michael Kooman and Christopher Dimond; and Guarding Gold Street, a family drama about the American dream by Sean Michael Flowers and Marya Spring Cordes. Ring in the holidays with our production of It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play on Victoria Theatre Association’s Broadway Series. And be sure to catch the latest script-in-progress in our Marsha Hanna New Play Workshops program.

We even have opportunities for those who want to get out of the audience and into the action with our theatre education classes and camps for children, teens and adults throughout the year.

Art comes alive at The Human Race. Join us for the show.
