THE 2012-2013 SEASON
WELCOME TO THE HUMAN RACE'S 2012-2013 SEASON!
Welcome to our second quarter-century! During our 25th Anniversary Season, we took time to reflect on our past, celebrate our successes, recognize our artists, and honor our losses. Now we turn our focus towards our future—where we're going, what we want to achieve and who we want to be in the years to come. We'll continue to be a gateway where theatre professionals can share their talents with our community; we will form new partnerships and strengthen existing ones; we will bring you some of the latest plays to hit the national scene; and we'll take the lead in developing brand new works for the American stage.
The Human Race is delighted to present a 26th season that embodies all of our goals for the future. We have Managing Maxine, a fresh comedy that gives new meaning to the phrase "having a senior moment," and two recent Broadway hits—Lombardi, an engaging biography on one of professional football's greatest legends and Race, David Mamet's latest morality play about race and ethics. We'll introduce you to Oliver!, a musical gem, newly re-imagined with a bold— yet intimate—concept. And we'll partner with two highly-talented companies on exciting productions—Avenue Q, an outrageous satire of puppets and people, and Under a Red Moon, a world premiere thriller based on real-life events.
After enjoying her mixed media illustration for last season's Caroline, or Change, we're pleased to have Dayton-area artist MB Hopkins join us again to create the artwork for all six productions in the 2012-2013 Eichelberger Loft Season.
We hope you enjoy this daring season. And we invite you to join us for a number of other projects we'll be producing throughout the year—a staged reading of Gingerbread Children, a play-in-development by Under a Red Moon's playwright, Michael Slade; our production of the hot rock musical, Next to Normal, on Victoria Theatre Association's Broadway Series; and, of course, our annual summer whirlwind Festival of New Musicals, featuring Dani Girl; Red-Blooded, All-American Man and 35MM: Musical Exhibition.
The future starts here; let's explore it together.
