Tickets are $65 and $140 (VIP Level).
VIP level tickets include a pre-show event with heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine and cheese; reserved premium seating and a post-show reception with Ms. Luker. The price includes a $35 tax deductible gift to The Human Race.
Three-time Tony Award nominee Rebecca Luker was last seen on Broadway as “Helen Bechdel” in Fun Home. Before that, she played the Fairy Godmother in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Other Broadway shows: Mary Poppins, Nine, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, Showboat, The Secret Garden, and The Phantom of the Opera. Off-Broadway: Indian Blood (Primary Stages), Can’t Let Go (Keen Company) and The Vagina Monologues. Regional theatre: Passion (Clara) at the Kennedy Center, Time and Again (Old Globe) and She Loves Me (Reprise! series is Los Angeles). Concerts: The Boys from Syracuse and Where’s Charley? at Encores! Symphony appearances include the Royal Stockholm and London Symphonies, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. She has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Library of Congress and the White House. Ms. Luker has appeared multiple times with the American Songbook Series in the Allen Room, as well as the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater for the Barbara Cook Spotlight Series. Joseph Thalken is an award-winning composer whose theater and concert works have been performed internationally. His musicals include Harold and Maude, book/lyrics by Tom Jones, Was, book/lyrics by Barry Kleinbort, And the Curtain Rises, book by Michael Slade, lyrics by Mark Campbell, and Borrowed Dust, book/lyrics by Martin Moran.
Honors include two Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla Foundation Musical Theater Commendations, the Constance Klinsky Award, Meet the Composer award, a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and support from the Shen Family Foundation which included Mr. Thalken in their Musical Theater Composers Initiative, a select group, including the legendary Stephen Sondheim, that has received grants and commissions to create new works and expand the musical theater art form.
His concert works include chamber, choral, orchestral, wind and vocal music for a wide variety of artists. As a pianist, conductor and/or arranger, he has performed with Patti LuPone, Bernadette Peters, Polly Bergen, Rebecca Luker, B. J. Ward, Faith Prince, Marin Mazzie, Elizabeth Futral, Anna Bergman, Denyce Graves, Michael Crawford, Howard McGillin, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, Brian Stokes Mitchell and many others.
After graduating from Northwestern University, he worked at the Zurich Opera Studio and spent several years at the Stadttheater Aachen (Germany) as a conductor, pianist and composer. A long-time New York City resident, he has taught music theater composition at Yale University. www.josephthalken.com
