Dayton went first.

New musicals don’t just appear. Launching a world premiere production takes the innovative spirit Dayton is known for.

No reviews to quote, no cast album, no proof that any of it works. Somebody has to pay for it anyway.

In 2023, Dayton stepped up. Jack and Sally Eichelberger sponsored the season. Morris Home underwrote accessible tickets. The Enterprise Holdings Foundation paid for Pay What You Can seats, so the first audience a new musical ever had wasn’t limited to people who could afford one.

Wright State’s resident lighting designer lit it. The Human Race Theatre Company built it.

Two years later it opened in England.

Neurodivergent representation

A promise that Indigo has never broken.

Emma doesn’t speak. She is the center of the show, and she has autism.

Before the first production existed, the show’s team made a commitment: every actor who plays Emma would be neurodivergent.

This was the first production. Madison Kopec played her here in 2023. That promise has held in every production since, including Leicester.

Don’t take our word for it.

Every word below belongs to somebody else.

“INDIGO is the most beautiful and authentic depiction of autism in a kid as I have ever seen. This story needs to be seen by the world.” said Rosie O’Donnell of the new musical.

A glowing future: Indigo’s planned 2027 London premiere.

In August 2026, Rosie O’Donnell joined Wright State University graduate Joey Monda and Sing Out, Louise! Productions on the producing team. O’Donnell came aboard after seeing Indigo in Leicester. The producers are planning a London premiere in 2027.

Kevin Moore: At the Heart of The Human Race

On Saturday, May 14, 2022, beloved faces from The Human Race’s past and present came together at The Victoria Theatre to give Kevin Moore the retirement send-off he deserved.

Thank you to everyone – the writers, performers, and most importantly, YOU, the people who support The Human Race Theatre Company – for helping us send Kevin off with an incredible tribute.

More images and links will be added as we collect them.
